P-2 News
Welcome to Term 3!
Last week, marked a special milestone for our Prep students – their 100th day of school! It was an exciting celebration, packed with fun and meaningful activities like completing 100 exercises, forming a giant ‘100’ on the oval, writing 100 words, counting to 100, creating their very own “100 Days Smarter” crowns and so much more. The culminating activity and certainly a favourite, was a lunchtime disco. It was a great day that reinforced just how much our Preps have grown, learned, and achieved in their first 6 months of school. A highlight for me was seeing the Preps walk through a guard of honour, a tradition usually reserved for our Year 6 students on their final day of primary school. I hope that when our current Preps walk through that guard again in Year 6, they’ll remember how far they have come since that very first milestone - their 100th day of school.
Next week, we have another exciting event for our Prep cohort: The Prep Olympics! This event will be held on Friday 8 August, 9:00-10:30am on the oval. Prep Olympics is just like a Sports Day where our students will participate in various sports and activities, showcasing their skills and teamwork. We invite parents and families to attend this event.
Events like the 100 Days of School celebration and the Prep Olympics complement the learning our Preps are doing in their English unit as students are learning to share an experience to an audience. Year 1 students are also building their oral language skills by learning how to present a procedure and share an opinion, and our Year 2 students are learning to express preferences about a favourite place and support their opinions with reasons. Our P-2 visible learning walls are beginning to grow, and students have been introduced to their goals folder which will be utilised as a tool to reflect on learning and knowing next steps.
This term, we continue to welcome 2026 Prep families into our school community. On Tuesday 5 August, we’ll host a morning tea for parents and carers to meet one another and connect with our Community Liaison Officer, Linda Savins. Later in the term, our future Preps will take part in a special orientation morning where they’ll experience two specialist lessons in areas such as Physical Education, The Arts, STEM or Music. In the background, our early years team are continuing to collaborate with local kindergarten educators through our ongoing kindergarten network meetings – all part of our commitment to ensuring a smooth and supportive transition to school.
Thank you, as always, for your support. We look forward to seeing you throughout the term.

Eco Marines win GOLD!
Meet Lucy, Harper, Coby and Ace from Year 4. These are four passionate EcoMarines students from our school who recently travelled to Tangalooma Island to represent us in the prestigious Global Link Australia competition. This event brings together student leaders from across the globe to share and present innovative sustainability projects that make a positive impact on the environment.
Our students presented their inquiry project, “How can we create a frog-friendly habitat at our school to support local frog populations and help our environment?” They shared their research, design ideas, and community actions aimed at supporting local frog species. We are thrilled to announce that their inspiring work was recognised with a GOLD AWARD — a remarkable achievement that celebrates their innovation, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our planet.
A special mention to Mrs Jones, Mrs Davis & Mrs Price for their outstanding guidance and support in the lead up to this event, and to Lachlan and Maxime in Year 6 for their creative ideas and encouragement.
We are so fortunate to have an incredible students and staff who passionately display outstanding efforts and inspiring leadership in sustainability!

Academic Awards Parade
Today, we proudly celebrated the Semester 1 Academic Awards Parade for our Year 3–6 students. This is a special event that recognises and honours the academic efforts and achievements of our learners. At the parade, award recipients were presented with Gold and Platinum awards for demonstrating excellence across core subjects such as English, Mathematics, HASS and Science, as well as specialist areas including Music, Italian, Health, Physical Education, Technology and The Arts. These awards reflect consistent effort, strong achievement and a commitment to learning. Silver academic award certificates will be handed out to recipients in class, recognising and celebrating these students’ achievements alongside their class teacher and peers.
It was wonderful to have a number of community members at our parade, including the Hon. Di Farmer, Councillor for Morningside Lucy Collier, P&C president Chantelle Odewhahn, Shane O’Malley Deputy Principal Balmoral SHS and Ashley Boyd Junior Secondary HOD Balmoral SHS.
Following the parade, special guests, award recipients and their families came together to enjoy morning tea. A big thank you to our wonderful school events team and Linda Savins for the delicious treats and hospitality.
It’s so great to celebrate the academic excellence and vibrant learning culture we have at Bulimba.
