DEPUTY PRINCIPAL YEARS 3-6

Music

We are very fortunate to have such passionate and committed music teachers at our school. Cindy, Andrea and Fan do an incredible job of nurturing our students’ love of music and are always on the look out for opportunities to grow their own skills and provide incredible support and tuition to our music students.

Band

This week we hosted Yamaha Education Outreach Clinician, Professor Rob McWilliams here at our school. Cindy, our band and percussion teacher, invited Rob to observe her conduct the band and provide feedback to further hone her conducting skills. Whilst visiting, Rob also conducted the band and gave insightful tips to the students to further develop their big band performance skills.  As well as this, we had Matt Chambers, Head of Department for Instrumental Music, visit on Wednesday morning. He conducted a workshop with the big band students on jazz soloing and improvising.

Strings

Fan is new to our school this term but has connected so beautifully with her students already. Fan’s violin and viola students are continuing to work on their technique for their bow hold, with Fan identifying how her students could benefit from the addition of a pinky holder.  Fan’s expertise and responsiveness is greatly appreciated by her students and their families.

Choir

Andrea’s junior and senior choirs are gearing up for Choral Fanfare in June. Choral Fanfare promotes and celebrates school-based choral music programs and aims to:

  • offer students, as well as conductors, the experience of expert adjudication and feedback
  • provide students with the opportunity to perform alongside choirs from other state schools
  • highlight school-based choirs
  • promote excellence in choral performance

The sound coming from the music room of a morning is just incredible. Our choirs are really something special and this is a credit to Andrea who selects, arranges and leads each of her choirs with passion and creativity.  I can’t wait to see our choirs perform on the big Fanfare stage in June!

Instrumental music parents and carers play such an important role in nurturing their child’s love of music too. Thank you, Bulimba families, for encouraging regular practice, transporting your child to early morning rehearsals, providing a quiet space at home and most of all acknowledging the effort your child puts in to their music. It all adds up!
