DEPUTY PRINCIPAL PREP - YEAR 2
P-2 News by Mrs Turnbull
A Fantastic Celebration for Under 8s Day!
Last Friday morning was filled with so much excitement as we celebrated Under 8s Day with a wonderful range of activities and community spirit. This annual event continues to grow each year, and many attendees shared that this year was the most enjoyable one yet!
Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who gave their time to make the morning run so smoothly—whether it was guiding groups of students through activities, managing the barbecue (shoutout to Dad’s Camp!), setting up marquees, or helping pack down afterwards, your support made a huge difference.

We were thrilled to welcome a fantastic group of local businesses and early learning centres who contributed to the day’s success:
- Bulimba Community Kindergarten
- Tugulawa Early Education
- Harmony Early Education Balmoral
- Harmony Early Education Balmoral
- Balmoral House Private Preschool
- Kick Dance
- Sprout and Soar
- Spartans Basketball
- SJJA Jujitsu
- Craft Camp
- QLD Firebirds Netball
- My First Gym
- Crackerjack Toys
- Brumbys
- Recharged Coffee Van
It was also a pleasure to have in attendance Di Farmer, Member for Bulimba, and several new families who are joining our school community for Prep 2026, along with our Year 6 Balmoral SHS helpers and our Year 6 playground buddies and special events team.
Finally, a huge thank you goes to Mrs Buglass and Miss Linda for your behind-the-scenes organisation that led to such a successful event and to our dedicated P-2 teachers, school staff and school’s P&C for facilitating a range of fun activities, many of which reflected the 2025 theme of Under 8s Day – Unleashing Scientific Thinking Through Play.
Days like these remind us of the strength of our school community and the joy of learning through play.
Introducing the Wonder Workshop: A Space for Imagination and Play
Have you heard about our school’s newest addition? The Wonder Workshop is an exciting new space designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and collaboration in our youngest learners.
Located in its own dedicated classroom, the Wonder Workshop invites students to step away from their regular learning environment and dive into a world of imaginative, sensory, and creative play. Here, students are free to explore role-playing, storytelling, and make-believe adventures; activities that not only fire up their imaginations but also build important social skills like communication, cooperation, and negotiation.
During lunch breaks, our Prep to Year 2 students have embraced the Wonder Workshop with open arms. Many have even taken part in helping establish the space’s expectations, ensuring it remains a welcoming and well-maintained area for other year levels to enjoy throughout the week.
The Wonder Workshop is already proving to be a cherished part of our school day; a place where learning meets wonder, and where every child has the chance to dream, create, and connect.
If you have any items to donate to the Wonder Workshop, please see the flyer below:
Welcoming Our Future Prep Families
This term has been full of wonderful opportunities to welcome our incoming 2026 Prep families to the school community. From enrolment interviews to school tours and those who attended our Under 8s Day, we’ve loved getting to know the new faces who will soon be part of our school.
Visiting families often comment on how friendly and inclusive our school feels, and we couldn’t agree more! It’s always a pleasure to showcase our vibrant learning spaces and the warm, welcoming community created by our staff and students.
If you’re planning to enrol your child for Prep in 2026, don’t forget to complete the enrolment form available on our school website or email Admin@bulimbass.eq.edu.au to find out more.
Celebrating Success at Principal’s Afternoon Tea
Friday afternoons have become a cherished tradition at our school - not just because the weekend is near, but because it’s time for Principal’s Afternoon Tea!
Each Friday at 2:15pm, selected students from every class have the opportunity to present their learning to Mr. Goulter, Mrs. Price, and myself. This special gathering alternates weekly between our Early Phase students (Prep–Year 2) and Upper Phase students (Years 3–6), allowing us to hear from students across all year levels.
It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the effort and progress happening in our classrooms. Last week, I captured some of our Prep to Year 2 students who proudly showcased their work and shared explanations of what they’ve been learning about. We were so impressed with their thoughtful reflections and confidence with speaking in front of peers from other classes.
To recognise their achievements, each student receives a certificate, a Principal’s Award sticker, and of course, a small treat to enjoy.
Principal’s Afternoon Tea is a weekly highlight that brings joy and pride to our learners. We look forward to it every week!

Back by Popular Demand – Open Classroom Returns!
Following the wonderful response to our Open Classroom event last year, we’re excited to bring it back this term! Join us in Week 9 for this special opportunity to step inside your child’s learning environment and experience firsthand the high-quality teaching and learning happening every day at Bulimba.
Event Details:
? Tuesday 17 June and Wednesday 18 June
? 2:30 – 3:00pm (both days)
Parents and carers are welcome to attend one afternoon (or both if you have more than one child to visit). There is no need to register or RSVP for this event – just turn up to your preferred afternoon.
During the Open Classroom event, your child will guide you on a learning walk through their English unit. They’ll explain the visible learning wall or “Bump It Up” wall, discuss key artefacts that support their learning, share learning goals, and proudly showcase some of their writing achievements so far.
Thank you for supporting this initiative. Our students can’t wait to show off their learning!
