“La festa della repubblica”

 In Italy, June 2^nd is the celebration of “La festa della repubblica” – Italy’s national day. On Monday, we celebrated with special activities in Italian lessons. 

On June 2^nd in 1946, the Italian people voted in a referendum to decide whether they wanted to continue being a monarchy or to become a republic and elect a president as their head of state. Importantly, this date also marked the first time that women were allowed to vote in Italy. The people chose to become a republic and the Italian royal family was asked to leave the country. June 2^nd marks the birth and unification of the Italian Republic. Every year, Italians celebrate their national day with a public holiday and patriotic military parades. 

ITALIAN DRESS DAY: On Monday 267^th May we had an Italian Dress Day. A big grazie to everyone who helped make La festa della repubblica such a success! The school was alive with color, culture, and community spirit. Students looked fantastic in their free dress, many embracing the Italian theme with style and creativity.
